Invoy, a health and wellness company, collaborated with software development firm GoatBytes.IO to upgrade their innovative breath analyzer device and companion mobile applications. The Invoy device measures the amount of exhaled acetone in the breath, which helps users determine whether they are burning fat for energy or simply burning food. The mobile app provides personalized coaching and nutrition solutions based on data collected by the device, to help users reach their health goals.

Problem Definition

Invoy collaborated with GoatBytes.IO, a software development company based in Orange County, to develop an affordable breath analyzer device and mobile application that measures exhaled acetone levels to determine if the body is burning fat for energy. However, Invoy faced a challenge in upgrading their mobile applications to support their latest Invoy 5.0 breath device, as they lacked the mobile development expertise. The app required a significant refactor to support best practices, add reliable architecture, and necessary updates for their new firmware.


GoatBytes.IO team worked collaboratively with Invoy's executive and development teams to support the new Invoy 5.0 breath device, using agile development methodologies to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of the project. To ensure compliance with ethical and regulatory requirements, the team documented the development process and conducted regular reviews and retrospectives. They also utilized JIRA and kanban boards to track progress and evaluate the effectiveness of their process. The team utilized Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology to connect the device with the mobile application, and Nordic Semiconductor Android Bluetooth LE was used to implement the BLE interface. Kotlin and Swift were used to develop the mobile applications, which was refactored to utilize the Model-View-ViewModel (MVVM) architecture pattern to improve maintainability and testability.
