Float.Today is a fintech startup with a mission to provide families and couples with full control over their credit information. Their main product, Float Credit for Couples, is a mobile application that allows couples to track their credit reports with complete privacy control. GoatBytes.IO worked with Float to build their Android application, emphasizing security and privacy.

Challenge

The biggest challenge for GoatBytes.IO was to build a secure application that would protect users' sensitive data. Float.Today collects a lot of sensitive data, including users' credit scores, Social Security numbers, and bank account information. It was important for GoatBytes.IO to build an application that would protect this data from unauthorized access. Another challenge was to build an application that was user-friendly. Float.Today's target market is people who are not familiar with credit scores or financial literacy. It was important for GoatBytes.IO to build an application that was easy to use and understand. The app had to be designed with security as a top priority, with built-in analytics for monitoring usage and identifying trends.

Solution

GoatBytes.IO worked with Float’s designers and executives to build and launch the Float.Today Android application on Google Play. They built the app from scratch, following best practices in mobile development. The app made use of Equifax APIs, giving users the ability to track their VantageScore credit score. Users had total control over how they shared that information with others, with three different levels of access to choose from.

GoatBytes.IO used Tink, a multi-language, cross-platform, open source library that provides cryptographic APIs that are secure, easy to use correctly, and hard(er) to misuse. Tink and AndroidKeyStore were used to protect sensitive data. Goatbytes.io used a variety of other security measures to protect Float.Today's application. These measures included:

  • Two-factor authentication
  • Encrypted data storage
  • Secured APIs
  • Regular security audits

GoatBytes.IO also used a variety of user-friendly design principles to make the Float.Today application easy to use. These principles included:

  • Clear and concise language
  • Simple and intuitive navigation
  • Visually appealing design

From a business perspective, the app was designed with built-in analytics, allowing Float to monitor usage, identify trends, and make adjustments as needed. This helped Float to scale the business sustainably over time."

Results

The Float.Today application was a success! The application was launched in 2021 and has since been downloaded by over 100,000 users. The application has received positive reviews from users and critics alike.

Float won the 2020 SoCal Startup Day event, Southern California’s largest startup and investor event. The successful application launch helped Max secure financing and the integrated analytics enabled him to understand conversion rates by following marketing activities through to user actions and overall engagement. This information was used to improve the app's user experience and make it more engaging for users.
